Volunteer Fair
On September 13, 2023, the Centre for Community Partnerships (CCP) hosted a vibrant volunteer fair on the Sir Daniel Wilson Quad on the St. George campus for more than 500 student attendees. The event featured 21 community partner tables, each staffed by representatives eager to share information about their organizations and volunteering opportunities with students.
The Centre for Community Partnerships also promoted community-engaged learning programs for students including Alternative Reading Week, the Community Action Program and the Seeds of Change Food Justice Program. Students were given bingo cards listing all the community partners, encouraging them to visit multiple tables to collect stamps (and those who gathered five or more stamps could redeem their cards for an ice cream!)
Community organizations were thrilled with the level of interest from prospective student volunteers and students in attendance appreciated being able to connect directly with organizations engaged with the issues they care about including food justice, the climate emergency and supporting local communities.
Objective: 4.4
Actively engage students to co-create programs, services, and resources, and collaborate with student leaders who represent different communities on campus and student colleagues to foster a vibrant student-centric community.
