Transcending Therapy Group

In 2024-2025, Health & Wellness launched a new therapy group called Transcending to expand the support available to trans and gender-diverse students experiencing stress from transphobia.

Transphobia, social stigma and discrimination can have a negative impact on a person’s overall health and well-being. This eight-week, cognitive behavioural therapy- (CBT) based group introduces skills to target the cognitive and behavioural impacts of minority stress that contribute to emotional distress.

The group offers a space for Trans and gender diverse students to share experiences and help them understand and work through the impact that gender-related minority stress may have on their lives.

The first group of six students participated in Transcending in the fall of 2024, and the therapy group continues to be offered each semester and positively received by students.
