Indigenous Firekeeper Training Program

The First Nations House Firekeeper Training Program provides training for Indigenous (First Nations, Inuit & Metis) U of T students.

Students gained practical firekeeping skills like how to set up, light, maintain and safely extinguish a ceremony fire, and gained knowledge about sacred medicines.

Firekeeper trainees demonstrated what they learned through the program, as well as any of their own knowledge, troubleshooting and collaboration skills.

The program is successful due to the enthusiasm and hard work of the students.

Firekeeper trainees may assist with First Nations House Monthly Full Moon Fires and other events on campus.
