EDIA Committee

In October 2023, the pilot of the SL Staff EDIA Committee membership was finalized and formally announced. Consisting of nine members of the staff community from different clusters and leadership levels, the mandate of the SL EDIA Committee is focused on advising the Manager, EDI and to help to support the coordination of community and EDIA knowledge-building touchpoints.

Initial work has included the creation of a funding pathway for interested and engaged staff to request financial support to organize community gatherings that allow staff commune with one another while celebrating/platforming elements of a particular community’s culture. This helped to support events such as the Celebrating Eid event and the Lunar New Year Celebrations event.

More recently, the EDIA Committee created and disseminated a short questionnaire to the Student Life community to gain insight into what staff believe are important EDIA topics or knowledge areas they are interested in learning more about or discussing with others. The questionnaire was well received by the staff community with more than 65 responses. Mentioned EDIA-topics of interest by the community could be grouped into several different themes such as major themes such as ‘Addressing Bias and Workplace Dynamics’ and ‘Fostering Community’.

The structure and function of the EDIA Committee is under review to ensure that it meets the needs of the community.
