Deepening understanding and care through staff training
Staff members in Career Exploration & Education coordinated and completed the Working in Good Ways training through the University of Manitoba, engaging with culturally grounded principles and reflecting on practical strategies for building respectful, reciprocal relationships with Indigenous communities. and in the last paragraph change CxED to Career Exploration & Education
This framework and the resources shared gifted colleagues with a set of principles and practical strategies to apply at different stages of work with Indigenous communities, and with all partners in support of good relations, reciprocity, trust and community.
It is important to the team at CxED to continue to learn, take appropriate actions and engage in dialogue as we work towards decolonizing career education. By prioritizing community care, centring students’ voices, designing experiences with inclusive and accessible practices and values in mind, educating employers to better understand student needs and support meaningful experiences, the unit moves away from extraction and toward reciprocity to ensure all partners feel valued, understood and supported.
