Medical Abortions at Health & Wellness
Ending a pregnancy can be a difficult decision, but Health & Wellness provides support to students by helping them understand their options and access timely abortion care.
Health & Wellness has provided abortion counselling and support to students for many years, including referrals for medical and surgical abortions. In November 2024, doctors began providing medical abortions within the clinic as another option for students.
Medical abortion is a safe and effective way to end a pregnancy within the first 10 to 11 weeks that can be done at home and almost always avoids the need for a procedure. Patients take medication prescribed by a family doctor which typically ends the pregnancy within 24 hours.
Students seeking this option at Health & Wellness receive education and support from doctors and nurses to learn how to take the medication, and what they can expect in the days and weeks afterwards, including follow-up care at Health & Wellness.
In 2024-2025, doctors at Health & Wellness supported 12 students to access medical abortion.
Objective: 2.3
