Considering Generative AI as a Tool for Learning

As the institution learns to navigate the use of generative artificial intelligence, the team at CLSS is committed to learning about evolving University policies and guidelines for its ethical use. They also have a goal of supporting students with a discerning approach to using generative AI as an aid to learning.

In 2023/24, a generative AI sub-committee was created to help the team stay up to date on the use of AI at the University and begin developing student-facing resources for its use.

Key activities included:

  • participation in the Provostial Advisory Committee on generative AI
  • collaboration with CTSI, OVPIUE and others on the co-development of resources
  • attending several Town Halls and other workshops on generative AI use and its implications
  • inviting GCAC to conduct a professional development session for the team
  • conducting a student survey aimed at better understanding their current use of AI
  • developing a initial student-facing workshop called Exploring AI as a Learning Tool

This sub-committee will continue its work in 2024/25.
