Disclosure & Accommodation Guide for the Workplace
In the summer of 2023, Career Exploration & Education, in collaboration with Accessibility Services and tri-campus career and accessibility colleagues, launched the Disclosure and Accommodation Guide for the Workplace. This tri-campus resource supports students and recent alumni who experience disability-related barriers to navigate decision-making with respect to disclosing and requesting accommodations.

Earlier this year, the guide received a 2023-24 Excellence Through Innovation Award, exemplifying its valuable contribution to the U of T community. Career educators, accessibility and experiential learning accommodations coordinators continue to be invited to speak with colleagues who use the guide, enhancing their capacity as allies and fostering solidarity with students.
The impact of the guide extends beyond the University, with a standing-room-only presentation at CANNEXUS 2024. This presentation has led to follow-up professional development conversations for staff at other post-secondary institutions, such as Loyalist College, on enhancing support for students around disclosure and accommodations. The guide continues to actively contribute to the dialogue in the career development sector with an upcoming presentation at the Disability and Work in Canada: Strengthening the Movement for Inclusive Work for All conference in November 2024.
A recent U of T graduate shared,
“I can proudly say that the Disclosure and Accommodation Guide for the Workplace embodies the rigor, empathy and professionalism of the University of Toronto’s student services; it is a superb resource and scaffold for students and graduates developing their own advocacy and effective wayfinding practices within the University and working world.”
